The course aims at:
- Understanding factors important for foundry alloys
- Freezing temperature, freezing range
- Understanding casting defects – influence of alloy
- Feeding – porosity
- Fluidity
- Hot tearing
- Segregation
- Understanding solidification of Al and Mg foundry alloys
- Relation to phase diagram
- Microstructures
- Understanding properties of foundry alloys
- Mechanical, corrosion
- Heat treatment
Prerequisites of the course are the basics of physical metallurgy and basic thermodynamics including phase diagrams.
Some alloys covered in this course: Al-Cu, Al-Si, Al-Mg, Al-Zn, Al-Si-Cu, Al-Si-Mg, creep resistant alloys, hypereutectic alloys.
The total length of the multimedia lectures is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
